“Off Season” In Kosciuszko

There is so much more to our alpine areas than simply skiing. Check out some of the beautiful walks you can take when the snow has melted, go trout fishing, mountain bike riding, white water rafting or climbing… or high altitude athlete training.

Outside the National Park there is also horse riding, gliding, golf and sailing in nearby Lake Jindabyne.

National Parks can provide loads more information on activities.

Did You Know? Kunama Namadgi, meaning snow and mountain, has been submitted to the Geographical Names Board of NSW to sit alongside Mount Kosciuszko.

The mountain was named in 1840 by Polish explorer Pawel Strzelecki in honour of his homeland hero and freedom fighter Tadeusz Kosciuszko.

One of the easiest to do from South Perisher lodge is the Porcupine Walk, which is suitable for most ages and fitness levels. The Charlotte Pass to Perisher Walk is also lovely.

Don’t forget to purchase a pass. $17 per vehicle per day (24hrs); motorcycles $7.

Note: Perisher allows mountain biking on its many service and access tracks across the valley. These trails are not mountain bike specific and therefore they are not graded.

More details on bike rides in the Thredbo Perisher area are available on the NPWS brochure.

Some great info below is on the Perisher and Thredbo region is from the NPWS website:

As the snow melts you’ll discover a walker’s paradise. Tracks range from short riverside strolls and moderate day walks, to multi-day hikes.
